The Fashion School Guide

The Fashion School Guide was created to make one of the most important decisions in a young designer's education considerably more transparent. Choosing where to study fashion is rarely as simple as comparing league tables or reputation. Course philosophy, teaching methodology, culture, specialism, location, industry access, application expectations and graduate outcomes can vary enormously between institutions — and the right school for one student may be entirely wrong for another.

Drawing on years of experience across fashion education and industry, this book is part of a larger school series and a first of its kind global guide to leading fashion schools, bringing together the information applicants actually need to make an informed decision. Rather than simply ranking institutions, the guide looks beneath reputation to explore what differentiates each school: its educational philosophy, strengths, course structures, application requirements, culture, industry connections and the type of student most likely to thrive there.

The project required extensive research, editorial architecture and the translation of a complex educational landscape into something both accessible and visually engaging. Institutions including Central Saint Martins, Antwerp, IFM, Parsons, FIT, Polimoda, London College of Fashion, RCA, ESMOD and Istituto Marangoni are considered within a wider international context, allowing students and families to compare opportunities across countries and educational models rather than approaching each school in isolation.

The guide also became part of a wider TDCA decision-making ecosystem. Alongside it, we developed an Institute Matcher to help students identify schools aligned with their individual priorities, and supporting guidance around applications, portfolios and choosing the right educational environment. The ambition was to replace uncertainty with informed choice — giving applicants access to the kind of contextual knowledge that has traditionally depended on geography, networks or proximity to the fashion education system.
