Ngan Lok is a design conglomerate based in Shenzhen, China. They develop multiple brands and diffusion lines under the Ngan Lok umbrella. They design and sample in-house, own their own manufacturing facilities, and have showrooms and retail space across China. We first met in the Covent Garden Hotel during London Fashion Week, 2017, when they were looking for a creative lead to design and evolve their premium line TTT.
The tees were a focus on print and knitted textiles. Prints would evolve from a range of digital experiments, capturing images to manipulate, retouch or further abstract. Experiments often involved lighting set-ups and movement of materials, colours and textures that compliment the larger collection. Ngan Lok’s digital developer would perfect the print on screen before testing a range of print samples to control quality or adjust the tone and DPI. We would play with collage techniques, moving from on screen to off screen, and body to pattern piece. I would often visualise the exact placement and ensure the print was scaled to fit the pattern piece just so.
